some things to get off my chest

first of all, i'd like to say, thanks a lot, aaron. i love that video, too. and because of you i've watched it at least one million times at work.
second of all, i've listened to the same album about 70 times between today and yesterday and i dont' anticipate the end until about next week sometime.
third of all, i'm infatuated with ellen page. i just can't help it. she's witty and bright smiled and i just love her. and also, michael cera. i can't stop thinking about them. i wanna doodle their names on my notebooks and draw hearts and circles around them. and sit in algebra and think about how i want to hold their hands.
fourth of all, i can't wait til our new year's eve party. look at us all, we had such fun last year!!

merry christmas, i love ya

Topsies Songsies

Alright bodogs. Time to spill my top 25 songs of the year. With a few of the tracks I've posted, I'll discuss a favorite moment/random memory/thought I associate with when I listen to the song. Also, I'm not going to post the album cover....I'll save that for top albs of the year. If you have questions or comments....feel free to let em' spew. Here we go:

25. "Rollerdisco" by Black Moth Super Rainbow

24. "All I Need" by Raidiohead

23. "Resurrection Fern" by Iron and Wine

22. "Knife" Girl Talk Remix by Grizzly Bear
-Girl Talk needs to come out with more stuff.

21. "1234" VanShe Technologic Remix by Feist
-I like the original song too but this one is better.

20. "A Sunday Smile" by Beirut

19. "To A Fault (Featuring Grizzly Bear)" by Dntel

18. "The Pills Won't Help You Now (Featuring Midlake) by The Chemical Brothers
-Plett shared this song with me. Thank you.

17. "Someone Special" by The Tough Alliance
-Playing poker during Boys Hour.

16. "Bunny Ain't No Kind of Rider" by Of Montreal
-Indy trip with Heathe Dog.

15. "Whatever (Folk Song in C) by Elliott Smith
-Driving home for deer season listening to Mr. Smith. Nothing better. Then i watched Mr and Mrs. Smith. SIKE. in sikeston.

14. "Classy Penguin" by The Books
-Thank you Andy for this one. Reminds me of West Virginia hills and strep throat.

13. "Henderson Two" by Dosh
-My tipton house bedroom.

12. "D.A.N.C.E. (Alan Braxe Remix) by Justice
-For some reason I just think about Jim. you're lucky Jim.

11. "Lamb of the Lam (In the City) by Band of Horses
-Again, more W.V. fall beautifulness and VH1

10. "Handsome Furs Hate This City" by Handsome Furs

9. "Fireworks" by Animal Collective
-geez...so good

8. "Someone Great" by LCD Soundsystem
-Jim and Anna's wedding

7. "Beautiful Life" by Gui Boratto

6. "Apartment Story" by The National
-official summer song 2007

5. "I Am John" by Loney, Dear
-I think about a lot of summer items. Sonshine. Nina's B-day party.

4. "Bros" by Panda Bear
-LA

3. "Welcome Home" by Radical Face
- Ty.

2. "Flume" by Bon Iver
-First and favorite track off album. This one was really tough.

1. "Wham City" by Dan Deacon
-Jim's bachelor party. Holding the ipod speakers up to my ears with the volume turned all the way up at 419.

I struggled with the "only one track per album" rule. I had 3 Bon Iver, 3 Dan Deacon, 3 Panda Bear, 3 LCD and a few National songs. Tell me if I left out some stuff....I just remembered today that Beyonce remix song.

Your mind=eats for others

How often do you get to prove your intelligence AND help others? I know I do not often have the chance. That's why I found this little NPR tidbit so good. Quite simple really. Just choose the correct definition of a word from a list of four and for each correct answer twenty grains of rice are donated to the UN World Food Programme. Some of the vocabulary is a little tricky, but I got over 200 grains of rice in just a couple minutes. Give it a try and boast about how much rice you donated!
By the way, in case you are wondering, the banner ads that flash on the bottom of the page for each question (that you pay no attention to) pay for the rice you win. Take that Google! (links to an article about Google's digital books project not as good as you might think.)

however white

that magic of snow days... oh what a wonder to wake up and see the world covered with white. .. the quickest way to dismantle this enchanted wonderland full of grace and hope is to drive after a snowfall. it's not driving on the roads, so much, as it is the other people driving on the roads. i get the road rage something fierce, but i will maintain my position... it's not ME i'm worried about, it's the other asshole. for instance, driving down a snowy road, yet to be plowed in wonderful Huntington Co. and a big, stupid 4 wheel drive truck pulls out RIGHT in front of me. no lie. and then, after i had to pump my brakes to slow down EVEN MORE, he turned 5 seconds later. SERIOUSLY. 5 seconds. i just want everyone out there stop being bad drivers. Be good drivers. Follow the rules and be courteous. It's that easy. Oh and don't treat snowy, icy roads the same as you would dry roads. DUH, you freaks are idiots. yeah, i'm angry.

kevin Costner-politan

I heard on the radio that Nicole Kidman is the biggest disappointment in hollywood - in a crunch of numbers. For every dollar she made in the last few years, her movies ONLY made $5. anyways, that brings me to my next point.

we are having an oscar party.

bring your dresses. and your tuxes. and get your world view in line, vote on your favorites to win - :)

Oscar race is on.

Hey, thanks for looking out

I just want to say thanks and what a great job for my friend, aaron. Wow what a great job drawing that bird and that blue background is so deep and rich. Tiny Hats is probably one of my favorite sites It's great to see new designs on it and to have polls for us to answer about cats are better or dogs are better (its cats! rofl)

time to get serious

hey guys, okay, i've been thinking lately and i'd like to address two issues:

number 1 issue:
Heather, why the hell do you have a secret life you have never told us about? you have kids and a bunch of other friends who aren't us. i can't believe this. you have some 'xplaining to do. i guess i thought our friendship was deeper than this. sadly, i suppose, i was wrong.

Number 2 issue:
we all know that i am not one to say, "hey guys, i'm awesome with music, playing it, picking it out, picking it apart and saying,'these riffs rule over all other riffs'... et cetera." everyone here knows that i like lots of music lots and lots and lots. But i have been thinking, and since it is time to get serious, i have considered it and i did pick out my four favorite albums this year. I will post those, post other notable artists and highlight my favorite songs.

Please note, i have made my choices and recommendations, and will not remove any of the following albums, but will be happy to add to the list. Also, these albums have a listen all the way through ability with longing to listen again.

enjoy.

Albums: (in this order) also(i'm not savvy like jim, i can't put the album art up)
#1. Graduation by Kanye West
Kanye is growing. No skits on this album, thank god, and this album has the ability to not only coerce you listen, but force you to love it. Catchy beats and wonderful lyrics say hey, at first, you like me, but now, oh, now, after a few listens, you LOVE me.Graduation has the ability for easy singles but depth for the listener who craves more than rap cliches, because, let's face it, there are no cliches here. Kanye is truly a lyrical (and self proclaimed) genius. Thank you, Kanye.
Key song: Everything I Am

#2. Ghost by Radical Face
Appropriately named, Ghost is wonderfully haunting. This entire album is a triumphant soul melody. Before I got this album on my iPod, my husband would be listening to it and it was inevitable: i'd say, "Who is this?" with a sense of "i can't believe what i'm hearing." I believe that Ghost is an evolution of music, the tip top of the food chain, exactly what a musical experience should be.
Key song: Welcome Home

#3. The Reminder by Feist
From the very first note until the very last, these chords resonate in a familiar spot in one's heart. Leslie Feist's vocals are unique in a blue sky kind of clairty and the folky lyrics make me want to roll down the windows and sing as loudly as possible.
Key song: 1234 (up for a grammy)

#4. Cease to Begin by Band of Horses
One of the most notable leads in history. Beg to differ with me, if you will, but I place Ben Birdwell right with there with Sufjan Stevens. Cease to Begin, Band of Horses second full length album, is a too easily over looked album with their polite and gentle melodies, but once the listener begins to feel Cease to Begin it's a juggernaut of emotion. This album, Ben and his (wonderfully talented) band is a refresher to my emotions like an open air market. It's a deep breath and as a note to all emo and indie kids, this is what music should really be.
Key song: Is there a Ghost (Also, best album art!)

Other Notable ARtists who put out fantastic albums this year (let's face the facts, i don't know the names of the albums):
Bon Iver
the National
Loney, Dear
Iron and Wine

Highlight-able singles: (working list)
"Feel like going home" - yo lo tengo
"No One" - Alicia Keys

cats vs. dogs and kittens and friends

andy bought me a calendar - and they have bunnies and kitties being best friends.

also, i may have some problems, so think about me today.

also, a real post will soon be coming. :)

What Up

Continuing their dominance of the pop culture landscape, Kidz Bop rolls out a hot new original series appropriately titled "What Up? with Nick and Jake" where Nick and Jake tells us what up.

In episode 1, Nick and Jake introduce themselves.

In episode 2, with those brief formalities aside, they share some deep secrets with their public, and also unveil their hot new single. In this gut-wrenching tear-jerker, they tell us that we have never been hurt and bruised like they have. Try watching it without shedding a tear, and you will prove to yourself once and for all that you are a soulless bastard.

P.S. Also check out their fellow correspondent Giuleitta, who expose us to a little known indie group called Blondie, and shows why Kidz Bop will always be two steps in front of everyone else.
